I moved to Jacksonville Beach, from PeeWee Valley, Kentucky following a 4 year stint in the Army. I started my career in the hospitality industry as the Sales Manager of the Holiday Inn Oceanfront and later the Ramada Inn during the 1970’s. In 1978 I started Hero Concessions and took over the food service at, what was then, the Jacksonville Suns minor league baseball team. We grew from one team to five teams, traveling as far north as upstate New York and westward to Illinois. In 1981, I was awarded the contract for food service at The Players Championship, which developed into five more golf tournaments throughout the state of Florida. We became co-producers of a number of the Beaches Festivals, as well as being awarded the food service at the University of North Florida. In 1991, Cathy and I changed our business name to Mayes Food Services in order to include the many different services we offer.

As a 4th generation Jacksonville Beach native, I grew up in a “food family”. My grandparents owned 2 restaurants in the 1930’s & 1940’s, one being Gufford’s Chowder House. My Uncle owned Bill’s Broiler in the 1960’s and my mother raised my sister and I as assistants to her catering company. Every Sunday was an event in my family. 15 + family members gathered weekly to show off their cooking skills. When Mike and I married, we blended his concession’s experience with my catering knowledge and started Mayes Food Services, Inc. We’ve been involved in many groundbreaking events in the Jacksonville area as well as 5 renowned Florida golf tournaments. Additionally, we started meal prepping for our corporate clients for weight loss, convenience and overall health improvements. In August of 2020, we opened “The Freshly Forked”, a meal prep store front in Jacksonville Beach. www.thefreshlyforked.com

Director of Operations

Chad Mayes

I grew up knowing I would eventually be part of the family business. After graduation, I joined the Air Force and served for 4 years. Soon after returning home, I joined the Mayes Food Services team and have been the Director of Operations since 1999. It’s been such a great experience working with my family all these years and learning from the best. I bring a younger vibe to the company, keeping track of the latest trends in food service. I oversee all aspects of our bar and restaurant at Tailgaters Parking and the University of North Florida, as well as off site special events.
